Meet Your Instructor
Hey, I'm Ben! I've been practicing as a physician assistant (PA - similar to a doctor) in emergency medicine, urgent care, and family practice since 2014.
Starting in 2016 I got really interested in fasting and nutrition, and did a bunch of research and self-experimentation. Since then I've been using that knowledge to help friends, family, and patients improve their health. I've also shared it with thousands more people through my blog, podcast, YouTube, and email newsletter.
I've repeatedly been told that my fasting blogs, podcasts, etc. are some of the most clear and beginner-friendly anywhere online.
I think my background has put me in a unique position to help you apply fasting to your lifestyle in the simplest, easiest way possible.
A System Designed for You
I've organized years of experience and tons of research into a step-by-step framework that lets you build your "fasting muscle" at a comfortable pace--while improving your health from the start.
I've seen what usually throws people off, so I'll share key tips to help you avoid common pitfalls.
I'll help you clarify your vision and goals, so you can stay motivated throughout the program.
I'll teach you how to avoid the cycle of shame and negativity if you "slip up". And how to get back on track sooner than later.
I'll even help you make fasting fun / satisfying, by using scoresheets and other trackers to "gamify" your progress.
Overall, I designed this program to give you the best possible chance of long-term success, including improved metabolic health and sustainable fat loss.
Organized & Digestible
First, I'll teach you key principles to build a foundation for success.
Seconds, I'll help you prepare your environment and the people around you.
After that, you'll progress through 3 concrete fasting stages, each one helping you improve your health while building habits for the long-term success.
All along the way, I'll share tips and resources (including checklists and "cheat sheets") to help you stay on track--and get back on track when needed.
Course videos are short, and lessons are presented in easily digestible chunks, with specific actions to take after each one.
You'll have lifetime access (including updates!) so you can always go at your own pace.

"What I've loved about this course are the small, simple steps and instructions to time-restricted eating and intermittent fasting. The steps given are achievable and I have felt great along the way. I am just starting some longer fasts and it has been a natural progression to get to this point. Along the way it has been fairly simple and I am amazed at how good I have felt. It's a lifestyle I plan on keeping probably for the rest of my life. I love it that much!"

"In Fasting Made Simple Ben Tanner has developed an excellent course for people coming to fasting for the first time. Ben clearly explains the benefits of fasting and outlines a gradual approach to food restriction which is easy to follow. This is a thorough and practical approach to fasting those interested in the practice will find helpful.”

"The part of FMS that has made the most difference for me has been all the prep work around mindset. It is a factor that I have not paid attention to in my past attempts at being intentional and consistent at IF/TRE. Thanks for providing “bite size“ (ha!) instruction as well as extras for a deeper dive."

"I completed the Fasting Made Simple online course a couple of weeks ago. I found the tools inside very helpful and informative. I had started intermittent fasting this past December 2021 after watching several YouTube videos, including your FastingWell videos.
"The problem I found was that there was plenty of information on the results of IF, but I found little information on how to successfully approach IF. Your course was extremely helpful in assisting with the details that were missing. Most helpful is the information in Module 6 discussing electrolytes and strategies to extend your fast.
"Since I began IF, I have eliminated my use of rapid acting and slow acting insulin (Dr approved) which I had been for 20 years and reduced my blood pressure meds down to 1 from 3. As a side note, I have also lost about 50 pounds, 240 down to 190 using IF and Low Carb eating. I wish I had found the Fasting Made Simple course when I started IF!"

The Fasting Made Simple course has been so helpful to me! Whether you’re a beginner with fasting, or more advanced, Ben’s clear and thorough lessons are sure to help you on your better health journey. Ben does a comprehensive job of distilling the latest fasting knowledge and dividing it into easy-to-follow informational lessons.
I started fasting a year ago and I wish I had this course when I started! As I went through the entire course, I was reminded of the helpful basics of fasting, and learned new tips on how to fast better.
Ben’s nicely organized approach helped me to continue my health and weight loss journey. I have lost 20 pounds and have kept it off from fasting! My A1C dropped from 7.4 to 6.4 and I reduced some diabetes medications. My health keeps improving as I continue to implement the helpful advice Ben teaches in this course. I am grateful for all Ben’s wonderful guidance!

"The course has been great! Very basic and informative for those "first timers” that are interested in trying IF. It's simple and easy to listen to and read and ponder over.
"Your explanation of the science and tidbits of information on how to relate/communicate IF to family, friends, etc. was very encouraging. Real life situations come up and your suggestions of how to handle questions from others, etc. were great.
"Your course has helped me to keep my scales at the lower end of my goal. It has helped me in how I spend my time each day. I’ve figured out “other things to do” besides thinking about food, eating, etc. The course has opened up my creativity to keep food simple and healthy, and that I REALLY do not want to eat as much as I have in the past…and to be cognizant of emotional eating. FIND SOMETHING TO DO!!!! Doing something will take your mind off of food."

The first part of Fasting Made Simple is truly a step-by-step process where it feels like they’re taking you by the hand. All the technical terms are defined so it’s easy to understand and clear to follow. By the time I reached Stage 1, I was able to lose 5 pounds just by cutting out snacks and making better food choices. I’m happy to recommend Fasting Made Simple to anyone who’s learning and has a desire to better their health.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Can I Access the Course?
You have lifetime access! That includes any updates I make in the future.
You can work through it at your own pace, and you'll never be charged again for new content inside this course. :)
Can I Get a Refund if I'm Not Satisfied?
Yes. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied for any reason.
Just get in touch with me by email if you need help with that.
Who is This Course For? (& Not For?)
Many / most people can benefit from fasting. But the main target of this course is people with significant excess body fat (obesity), high blood sugar (prediabetes, type 2 diabetes), high blood pressure, fatty liver, PCOS, or other health issues related to "insulin resistance".
That's who can benefit the most.
Naturally, there are some people who shouldn't fast, including (but not limited to) pregnant women, young children, anyone who's underweight, and people with eating disorders like anorexia.
What if I Can’t Afford It / It’s Too Expensive?
Keep in mind, you'll probably save a LOT of money in the long run (and maybe the short run) by improving your health and preventing downstream complications of diabetes, obesity, etc. Thousands and thousands of dollars that otherwise would be spent on medications, hospital bills, and other healthcare expenses.
When you look at it like that, this course is actually ridiculously cheap.
I realize you may be struggling financially, so I understand whatever your final decision is. But if you can swing it, I believe the course is well worth the cost.
What if I’m Too Busy?
I knew you might say that. ;) So I designed Fasting Made Simple to fit in with your busy lifestyle. The lessons are short, so you can easily squeeze them into your daily routine. You’ll get simple, step-by-step advice that usually doesn’t take long to implement.
Obviously, you'll have to spend some time to make any lifestyle improvements. But you can do it a little at a time, take baby steps each day, and still make a ton of progress after a while.
In the long run, fasting can actually save you time, by limiting food prep, cooking, eating, or clean-up on certain days. (Not to mention saving you time you may have otherwise spent navigating the healthcare system).
Am I Going to Be Hungry All the Time if I Start Fasting?
Fasting gets easier (and hunger decreases) the more that you do it. That's why I'm going to help you get some easy practice early on. Your body and mind will have time to adapt while you build new habits.
I’ll also share a variety of troubleshooting steps to help you deal with hunger when it does happen.
Do I Have to Give up Junk Food?
Technically no, you don't have to. Fasting can be beneficial regardless of what type of food you eat. But keep in mind, even a small improvement in the type of food you're eating can produce a big benefit.
Once you start implementing the steps in this program, you may find you don't have as many junk food cravings. I’ll also provide some resources in case you're struggling with sugar or processed food addiction.
I’ve Tried a Bunch of Diets Before. How is This Different?
Traditional diets typically don't work in the long run. That's because when you cut calories day after day, your metabolism slows down and you feel sluggish. So eventually you quit, and likely rebound back to your previous weight (or higher).
Fasting has several advantages over calorie-restriction diets (which I'll explain in detail inside the course), and gives you a better chance of long-term success with fat loss and other health improvements.
My Diabetes Keeps Getting Worse. Will This Be Different?
Conventional medical treatments don't work very well for type 2 diabetes long-term. That's why until recently it was called a “chronic, progressive disease”.
In contrast, fasting is often able to control or even reverse the signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Thousands of patients have achieved diabetes remission through some combination of intermittent fasting and low-carb. With enough patience and persistence, there's a good chance that you can do it as well.
Do I Need My Own Doctor?
Yes.
Even though I'm a medical provider, I'm not your medical provider. I won't know all your circumstances, and I won't be doing blood tests etc.
I'll try to give you useful tips throughout the program, including a general idea about how to handle diabetes or blood pressure meds. But you'll still need a qualified medical provider who can help you with medication adjustments and other needs.
What Type of Fasting Will I Be Doing?
I’ve broken the program down into three stages, from very short “mini fasts” (Stage 1) up to fasting for a whole day (Stage 3 - “Alternate-Day Fasting”).
You'll master the easy version of fasting before you move on to something more challenging. That allows you to build healthier habits at a sustainable pace, without ever feeling overwhelmed.
Naturally, not everyone will need to do all the stages. It will depend on your goals and health circumstances. I'll explain all about that inside the course, so you know exactly what to track, and if/when to move on.
While I don't cover really long fasts (like a week or more) in this course, many of the tips I share in Stage 3 are also relevant to longer extended fasts.
I've Struggled to Lose Weight. Is This Really Going to Work?
While there aren't any guarantees in life (or in this course), if you follow the steps I’ll outline there's a good chance you can reduce body fat at a fairly consistent pace. These steps have worked well for many other people, and probably can for you as well.
Keep in mind, losing body fat doesn’t always mean losing weight. It depends on your body composition (lean mass vs fat). But if you have a lot of extra body fat, most likely your weight will decrease fairly steadily as you work through the program.
Lastly, remember that other variables like sleep and stress also play a big role in weight management. So you may need to troubleshoot other areas if you get stuck.
How Long Does it Take to Get Results?
This program isn't a "quick fix" or a "crash diet".
In fact, it's not a diet at all.
The goal is to help you build sustainable healthy habits (including fasting), so you can improve your health over the long run.
Typically, the best way to form a new habit is to start gradually, and make it easy at the beginning. So that's what we'll be doing here.
All that being said, there's a good chance you can see noticeable improvements in your health within a few weeks once you start implementing the steps. But it may take a lot longer than that to reach some of your loftier health goals. So you'll have to stick with the program.
It's a marathon, not a sprint. :)
What if I'm “Too Old”?
People who are elderly or frail need to take things slow, and have extra-close supervision. But people of any age can potentially improve their health with the right nutrition and/or fasting protocol.
Some of the steps I'll share in this program are quite easy, and just about anyone can do them (including most elderly people). Other steps require more preparation and caution. So you'll need to tailor the program to your individual circumstances.
What if I'm Pregnant / Nursing?
Right now may not be the right time to start fasting. But there are still some steps you can apply (like focusing on the type of food you eat, which I talk a lot about inside the course.)
If you learn about fasting now, it may help you hit the ground running after you're done with pregnancy / nursing.
Disclaimer
Progress and timetables vary a lot from person to person, so there's no guarantee of any specific results, or any specific timeline.
Naturally, there are some people who should not fast, and this course is not meant for them. This includes (but is not limited to) women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, young children, anyone who's underweight, and people with eating disorders like anorexia.
You'll need medical supervision when you start this program because I won't be able to do your medication adjustments, lab tests, etc. Even if you're not on medication, you may have some type of medical issue that you're not yet aware of (e.g. kidney failure), which would be important to know about when you start fasting. Elderly or frail individuals need extra-close supervision.
There may also be other factors outside the scope of this course that prevent you from reaching certain health goals (like ongoing stress, poor sleep, or a different kind of chronic health condition, to name a few examples.)
Always consider your unique individual circumstances, and consult a qualified medical provider whenever you need to. Use the information inside this program at your own risk.
